Max–Min Expected Utility

Time inconsistency arises in general because the prior \(\mathcal{P} = \{P_1, P_2\}\) is not rectangular: the worst-case prior can switch between \(P_1\) and \(P_2\) depending on the event observed and the act evaluated. A dynamically consistent MEU agent requires a rectangular prior set, where conditional priors can be freely mixed across events. With only two priors, rectangularity demands a specific product structure that is not guaranteed. \(\blacksquare\)


Exercise 6.
